Establishment and Foundation

Government Degree College Uri was established in 2005 by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir under the visionary leadership of then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. The college was conceived as part of the Prime Minister's Reconstruction Plan with the specific mission of bringing higher education to the remote, border region of Uri in the Baramulla district. Recognizing the educational deprivation in this strategically important but geographically isolated area, the government took a decisive step to create opportunities for the youth of Uri who previously had to travel long distances to pursue collegiate education. The establishment of this institution represented a significant commitment to educational equity and regional development.

Institutional Recognition and Affiliation

The college is formally affiliated with the prestigious University of Kashmir, ensuring that its academic standards align with one of the region's premier higher education institutions. This affiliation provides students with access to university resources, standardized curricula, and recognized qualifications.

In a milestone achievement, Government Degree College Uri has been granted recognition by the University Grants Commission of India under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act of 1956. This recognition affirms the college's compliance with national standards of higher education and qualifies it for various grants and developmental assistance from the central government, strengthening its institutional capacity.
